GinaCurl After Care

Congratulations! You are about to experience your hair in an exciting new way! 

The GinaCurl will allow you to manage your hair goals so much easier; however, it is important to remember that it is a chemical, and must be cared for properly to maintain the best possible result. 

Now that you have beautiful new curls, here are a few tips and instructions to ensure that you have success with your new hair texture.

Immediately after your GinaCurl

Your curls will need some time to fully set. For the next 3 days, do not rinse, shampoo, or fully submerge your curls. To revive your curls after sleeping, simply mist with water and scrunch.This reactivates the product previously applied to the hair. Keep in mind that your hair has product in it from the previous day so there is no need to re-apply. Over applying product may weigh the curls and cause unnecessary product build up. For moisture, add leave-in conditioner and a little curl cream (as needed) and scrunch. 

On day 3 after your GinaCurl you must shampoo your hair in order to stop any further processing. During and after the shampoo process, you do not want to brush, comb or use fingers to detangle; but instead use a large tooth comb with lots of conditioner to free shedded hair. Keep in mind that there will be some shedding as your hair has not been combed through or detangled in 3 days.

For the next 2 weeks, your hair will still be in an adjustment phase. You will need to continue wearing your hair curly, loose and free to avoid any disruption to the curl pattern. This means no hats, hair ties, ponytails or stretching the hair out or behind the ear. Refrain from using hair dyes or submerging hair in chlorine or salt water during this two week period. 

Nourish + Moisturize 

keeping in mind that your hair is now chemically treated, leaving it more vulnerable than in it’s virgin state. Avoid unnecessary damage to the hair by shampooing, detangling, and conditioning your hair weekly. Use a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning treatment monthly to further cleanse the hair and scalp of any build up and to restore moisture and maintain balance. 

Caring for your GinaCurl 

is as simple as one, two, three...

1. Shampoo: fully drench your hair with lukewarm water. Apply shampoo to hands then to scalp and roots. Massage into roots then rinse. Apply second application of shampoo mid shaft to ends and rub into hair in a downward motion. Do not scrub, detangle or tousle while shampoo is in the hair, instead gently work/rub through to the ends. Rinse. 
2. Condition & Detangle: with your hands, fully squeeze out water from your hair so that the conditioner can penetrate. Apply conditioner to the hair and allow a few minutes to absorb. Using a wide tooth comb, gently comb and detangle. Rinse completely. 
3. Style: squeeze out any excess water from the hair with your hands. Avoid rubbing vigorously with a towel; it can be abrasive to your hair. Instead blot and squeeze extra water out with your towel. Apply leave in conditioner throughout the hair from root to end. If needed, mist your hair with water if it begins to dry too quickly. Section the hair, then apply curl cream and scrunch. You may allow hair to air dry or diffuse on low heat, then mist with a light shine spray for added sheen. 

 To refresh curls, lightly mist with water to reactivate previous product and scrunch. Add leave in or a little curl cream if necessary for moisture. For frizzy hair or stubborn strands that may not want to coil as much as you would like, our product recommendations are ideal. 

Product

for your GinaCurl may differ slightly from those used to maintain your previous hair texture. Though you want products that are moisturizing, you will not need anything that will weigh your hair down causing your curl to change shape. You will need a good hydrating shampoo and conditioner with curl enhancing formulation. In addition you will want a good clarifying shampoo that will purify the hair and scalp of excess product and a deep conditioning treatment that will further restore and replenish. 

Our GinaCurl AfterCare TakeHome Kit "Deluxe" is recommended and includes everything you will need to properly manage your GinaCurl at home. You may purchase online or in house. 

Don’t 

•  Shampoo your hair the first 72 hours of your GinaCurl
•  Brush, tuck (behind the ear) or stretch your hair in anyway for the first 72 hours
•  Wear a style that creates tension on the hair or hairline such as ponytails or pulled back styles, for 2 weeks after your GinaCurl
•  Wear clips, pins, barrettes or rubber band styles for 2 weeks after your GinaCurl
•  Wear anything that causes pressure on the hair, such as a tight hat, cap or scarf for 2 weeks after your GinaCurl
•  Constrict the hair in any way for 2 weeks after your GinaCurl 
•  Swim in chlorinated pools or salt water for at least 2 weeks after your GinaCurl
•  Dye your hair for at least two weeks after your GinaCurl 
•  Use too hot or too cold water when shampooing 
•  Use anti dandruff shampoos, baby shampoos or green shampoos
•  Get highlights or high lift permanent color
•  Vigorously towel dry your hair
•  Use protein treatments in the hair

Do

•  Wash your hair on the third day after your GinaCurl 
•  Encourage a great curl by applying proper care the first 72 hours
•  Allow your curls time to become fully established and recover for 2 weeks after your GinaCurl
•   Do allow your curls time to become fully established and recover
•  Use lukewarm water when shampooing
•  Shampoo, condition and detangle AT LEAST once a week
•  Air dry or lightly diffuse on very low heat 
•  Avoid thermal styling, blow drying or any direct heat
•  Get regular trims
•  Return for a retouch in 6 months
